We didn't get very far today! Beachside reeled us in!

Farmers' Market in Yachats

More fish and chips necessary:
Luna Sea Fish House, owned
by a local fisherman--locally caught,
never farmed.  Superlative
AND dog friendly!

Boo gets a bite!
Can you believe that calla lilies grow wild here?

Researching and choosing a place to stay is a big part of the "work" of this trip.  We originally thought we'd be off the grid about half the time, but the Oregon State Park system is truly wonderful and it is hard to say no to certain parks that have some perks that we find hard to resist:  mainly, being by the ocean.

For "mountain people", like ourselves, it is incredible to us to find how much we have become "ocean people" in our old age.  We first discovered this on our trip back east, from Lake Erie (I know-not an ocean, but sure feels like one!) to the Cape and Martha's Vineyard to the Outer Banks of North Carolina.  Then we moved to San Carlos, Mexico for the winter and fell in love with the Sea of Cortez.  Now, following Route 1 and 101 from San Francisco up to (our next big destination-the Olympic Peninsula), it has happened once again!  We decided to just look at various possibilities up the coast but discovered Beachside State Recreation Area early in the day, fell in love and decided to stay there for two nights.  There isn't alot of privacy here, but you are right on the ocean.  Most people who are here hang out in their RVs and don't venture down to the beach (about a 2 minute walk) so we virtually have the Pacific Ocean to ourselves.  Can you see why we'd stay?
