Florence and Cape Perpetua

Along the way to Florence, we stopped at the
Umpqua Lighthouse, which is a Coast Guard Station
and wonderful place to spot whales.  We have seen
whales almost every other day since we've been on
the coast.

We were riding so high from our experience on the dunes, that we needed some seafood and a beer or two before going too far.  We also wanted to see the town where our friends, Cinda and Win Johnson, used to hang out in the summers at their lake house.  Well, we missed the road to the lake house, but did hang out in town where, fortunately, we could calm our nerves with a little chowder, oysters and fish and chips - along with a local beer.  Loved the fact that there was a gigantic sign proclaiming that it was dog friendly!

Don't you know that we'd be attracted to a place with a sign
like this?!

Boo needed a rest-no doggy
equivalent for a beer here!

We hit a wonderful farmers' market in Florence and bought some fresh strawberries and peaches. We also did some birthday gift shopping - a very sweet town!

On the road to Cape Perpetua, which had been recommended to us by "Ranger Don" back in the Six Rivers Forest, we came across one of the most beautiful lighthouses, Hecata Head.

The shoreline, as always, was magical:  heavily forested, wild and beautiful waves, incredible flowers....

Pretty darned steep....

Can you believe that foxglove grows wild here?
It's everywhere and I can't stop taking pictures of it.

This was our camp site at Cape Perpetua
National Forest Campground.  Such a lush,
green, absolutely beautiful forest!  And hardly
a soul here.

You can see the trail down to the beach from here.

even more lush forest

This shelter was built by the CCC (Civilian
Conservation Corps) in the 1930s.  It commands
one of the most incredible views we've ever seen.

What do you think of this view?!

Wild parsnip frame the trail to and from the shelter.

The view has nothing on the beauty of this beast!
