We love lighthouses, have seen many on the East Coast and didn't know there were so many here in Oregon. When I heard we had one (the Coquille River Lighthouse) just 3 miles down the road from our campsite, I decided to bike down there and back. It was a beautiful ride along the river and out to the sand dunes. I had a strong head wind coming and going at least half of the time and really didn't know if I'd make it back before succumbing to the winds and hitch-hiking back to camp. Bike riding is a little different at 70 than it was in our twenties, especially in 30 or 40 mph winds!

See my bike there by the sign? - Proof that I actually made it here. That's the
Coquille River behind the lighthouse. It looks so tame until you see where
it meets the Pacific. You can understand why there were so many wrecks here. |

The north jetty at the mouth of the Coquille - doesn't look so
tame here! |
Jim and Boo and I took a hike down to the beach after a short recovery period from the bike ride.

It was pretty windy so we hunkered
down amidst the driftwood. |

The walk to and from the camp site was just beautiful.
Healthy trees.... |

| Morning glory growing in the sand.... |
 |
| The grasses and wildflowers just beautiful...... |
 |
| Loved these-both pink and yellow - maybe a beach pea? |
