Newport, OR

Newport, Oregon is a real fishing town!  Men and women in rubber overalls are everywhere, it smells like fish and the harbor is filled with fishing boats of all kinds.  We learned an incredible amount about different methods of fishing, although that information is suddenly fading from memory.

This is the Coast Guard Station in Newport.

The bridge and the harbor surround a great little town,
with some lovely boutiques, some good restaurants and
alot of tacky commercial establishments.

We found the most wonderful
restaurant, Local Ocean
Seafoods.  It is part fish market,
part grill and only serves
sustainably caught fresh fish.
The only problem was that Boo
was not welcome.
It seems that they had an
incident last summer
when a dog bit a patron
and they have since,
had a no dog anywhere policy.  So,
poor Boo was relegated to a
post down the way a bit.

He just cannot understand why he isn't welcome.

This cracked me up!  A very nice lady who
adores dogs, felt sorry for Boo, got down on
the ground with him (IN HER WHITE PANTS!)
and kept him happy while we ate!!!!!!

The sea lions hang out on the docks here.
Can't believe that we swam with these big
guys in Mexico!

This one was the most vocal of the bunch.
Benches all along the port are dedicated to
townspeople who have died.
