Fun, San Carlos Style

Tequila's is the restaurant where Jim took Spanish lessons last year and fell in love with the fabulously fun and sweet waitress there, Esmeralda.  Today was her birthday.  We had a little cake and small gifts for her.  She is always happy, always helpful and gives us hugs every time we come in.  She is a keeper!

Thursday night, the infamous Twins were playing at JJ's, so we went to hear them play and to get a "loaded potato" (cheese and chunks of steak) which was enough for the two of us!  Our friend, Leslie, who used to sing with Spanky and Our Gang, sang and played bass with them on her birthday.

The twins (on the left) are 80!  Leslie is in back, Frank, singing
"Under the Boardwalk" is the leader of the local bikers' club.  The
guy on the right is the son of one of the twins.

We went to Guaymas for the docking of one of the big cruise ships.  It was pretty darned big!

Note the red striped trees in the foreground.
These are everywhere as a Christmas decoration.
They spray the bottoms white and then wrap
ribbon around them.

Artisans are everywhere selling their wares.
I bought one of those purses for birding ($8).

4 life boats on each side.  Each one holds 150.

There was entertainment, food and souveniers on the Malecon today--assume it was for the benefit of the cruisers but didn't see any norteamericanos here.

Once again, very loud Mexican music

Lots of "stuff" to sell

One of many nativity scenes around town-imagine Jesus
comes on the 25th.

One of my favorite events of the week was joining the birding group at the Esterito-little estuary.  It is right behind where we lived last year, but I never saw it looking this amazing until today.  I saw gulls,  egrets, herons, cormorants, pelicans, grebes, ibis, mocking birds, orioles, hummingbirds, verdins and so much more!

Those are snowy egrets and great egrets.

A feeding frenzy
We saw schools of anchovies swimming by
and then all the birds descend on them-don't know
how successful they are.

One of the local fisherman, getting ready to load
his boat up with nets.  He had to bail it out first.

The next day was proclaimed to be beach day.  This was the first time since we got here that we actually got out all the equipment to park ourselves at San Francisco beach for a fabulous afternoon of walking, shelling, bird watching, Boo playing, us reading (a little bit) and delighting in the many appearances of dolphins entertaining us.

As much as we'd like to, we just can't stay out all day - so back to the "ranch" for another glorious sunset.

We never get sick of this!

Gina left us some Christmas lights to
decorate our upper deck.  Very cool!
