Great Basin National Park

When you're looking at a map and plotting your route from Dinosaur National Monument to Petaluma, CA, (where our niece Jaime, her husband, Dave and their three kids live), it's pretty obvious that a great place to stop is Great Basin National Park.  Also, because I am the proud owner of a National Parks Passport (thanks to a gift from Lynne McDougal), it was an opportunity to get my passport stamped.  We were totally blown away by the beauty of this area.

Wheeler Peak - the road was still closed to the top due to snow!

Our fabulous campsite at Lower Lehman Creek

Happy hour by the creek

We could hear the creek lulling us to sleep at night!

Springtime at Great Basin!

The first Indian Paintbrush of the season

A wonderful hike through the aspens and sage to Upper Lehman Creek
While walking through the campground to our hike, we met Bobby, a very nice, very resourceful woman who is living in her RV full time.  Jim enjoyed talking with her about her solar and technological RV experience and, when I learned that she was taking the cave tour, asked if she'd be kind enough to take my husband with her.  Being very, very claustrophobic, there is no way that I would even entertain the thought of being underground, but I knew that Jim would find this fascinating.  Sooooooo.....

Jim toured the Lehman Caves, in continual commercial use
for about 135 years, and yet, with the exception of the lights
and walkways installed by the park, you might think it was
just discovered yesterday.  This is one of the famous shield
formations.

Scallop and dome shaped sculptured walls and that's the
original entrance at the upper left.

The Parachutes

We hated to leave this beautiful area but were also anxious to get on the road to the next adventure.  We are not sure where we will be tonight.
