Wyoming Adventures with the Adventurous Laughlins

Linda and Jack Laughlin have been roaming about the country in their 1956 Truck and Airstream Bubble for years and have always been an inspiration to us for how to do these RV adventures.

Check out that rig!  Do you think they get much
attention on the road?

They had traveled from Borrego Springs, CA, to Michigan and throughout the Midwest as we were traveling through California north and east through Montana and Wyoming.  We kept hoping that we would somehow end up some time, some place to travel together for a while.  Well, it turned out that Lovell, Wyoming was that place.  We met at the Bighorn Visitor Center in Lovell, watched a beautiful movie introducing us to this area and then took off for another death-defying drive up into the Bighorn Mountains to escape the 100 degree Lovell heat.  I was driving again, of course, and was mind boggled to find that it was such a steep grade (10%) going up and up and up (again!) that Maxine felt like she would end up going backwards.  I tried 2nd gear to no avail and finally found that she could move along slowly only in first gear!

The Bighorn Basin

It is pretty!

It was bad enough coming up.  I can't
imagine going down!

We found a nice little campground at Porcupine Creek on top of Medicine Mountain where the ancient Medicine Wheel is located.  Jack and Linda went to see the wheel (we had seen it the last time we were here) as we recovered from the drive.

On our walk from the campground

Another awesome view of the Basin

If you ever get to this area, you must see the medicine wheel.  It has been used by Native Americans for thousands of years as a sacred site………You can’t help but feel effected by its ancient history and its grace.  Natives in the area still use it for ceremonies.

Prayer offerings are left on the fence surrounding the circle.

The “boys” bought fishing licenses in Lovell for $104 apiece so they were determined to fish while we were here.  They went out for the afternoon to fish near our camp-a beautiful stereotypical Wyoming valley with wildflowers and open fields and a beautiful large creek winding its way through the valley.

They ended in a wide canyon, buttressed by beautiful granite outcroppings on either side.   Linda and I caught up with each other on news of friends and families and napped a little in the hammocks.

The guys returned with big smiles - They caught 6 brookies!

Success!!!!!

The Pro-Jack has been fishing forever!

We had a nice evening catching up on each other's lives, cooked Italian that night and then Jack pan fried the trout the next morning.
