We drove caravan style with the Laughlins across the Big
Horns to Dayton for some fabulous ice cream and then continued to Sheridan for
supplies and onward to Buffalo through blue highways.

Surprising to see so much green in Wyoming
in late August |
 |
The views down are just as beautiful as
the ones up on the other side. |
 |
| Quite a rock slide happened here. |
 |
| They had huckleberry ice cream and fabulous malts! |
We had hoped to go to a Road Food stop called
Waldorf A Story in Story, WY but it was closed and didn't look like it might open any time soon. We took some pictures and then found ourselves in the midst of many fort and battle sights of
the Indian Wars.
 |
| It looks like it is just a guest house now. |
 |
| We loved this bench made of logs. |
 |
Fort McKinney
This fort was created as a reaction to the defeat of Custer
at Little Bighorn. After the Indian Wars came to an end,
it was used by the Buffalo Soldiers and as part of the
Johnson County War between ranchers. It closed in 1894.

 |
| It's beginning to look like fall here. |

We pulled into Buffalo for happy hour at the Saloon at the
Occidental Hotel. Amazingly enough, Boo
was welcome there, so he joined us for beers, hamburgers, etc. When you walk through this hotel, you are
experiencing a step back in time to the days of the Old West.

Linda said, "Jack, you look like an old man
of 80!" Jack responded, "Well, what do you
expect? I almost am." (he's a very young 79)! |
 |
| The lobby |
 |
| The drawing room |
 |
| The saloon, then... |
 |
| And, now |
 |
| The saloon dining area |
 |
| Jack and Linda |
 |
| A dog friendly saloon, believe it or not! |
 |
| See? |
Many famous guests hung out at the Occidental, including:
 |
| The Sundance Kid and the Hole in the Wall Gang |
 |
| Papa |
 |
We'll leave you with this hysterical
picture we found in a magazine there.
The Tea Cup Lady - women were
encouraged to use their best
attributes to make money. She does
have a set of boobs! |
The last of our nights together ended atypically in an RV
Park, but, we were happy to be there for showers, laundry and other amenities
before taking off in our separate directions the next morning. We hope to end up together at the end close to Boulder. They headed west for more fishing and we
headed east to see Devil’s Tower.
