New Year's Eve was fairly quiet for us-we were not up for all the restaurant happenings. We had a few people over and sat outside on the deck watching for fireworks and listening to the faraway sounds of music, seemingly from everywhere.
We did alot of walking around the neighborhood, taking pictures.....
| I love these tile paintings on the sides of the houses |
| This one was lovely, if a little different. |
One of the homes behind the seawall on the
walk below our house |
| We are greeted by dogs everywhere we go |
| These two live right at the ocean and always say hello! |
| Jim walking into our hilltop neighborhood. We are to the right, 3 houses down. |
There are open houses most Saturdays. Here are a few of the highlights of ones we saw:
| This house was pink EVERYWHERE! But what a view! |
| It's not just us. Everyone down here lives outside. |
| This one had a huge pool and entertainment area right by the sea |
| Bathrooms are usually all tiled. |
| Some houses are quite formal |
| Love this kitchen |
| That's a huge dining table outside and another incredible mural on the wall. |
This area is right below our house. We can reach the beach
from this direction as well as the Posada Beach. |
This is the Mexican party house below our house.
They know how to celebrate! When they
have a party there are fireworks, bands (loud!)
and sometimes, strobe lights. Looks like a
great, if raucous, time! |
One day we explored the Ranchitos. This neighborhood is close to Nacapule Canyon. Homes are built on lots that are about an acre and people can do whatever they want with them (no zoning). Some people buy lots and just keep their boats and/or RVs there. Others build elaborate houses. Dogs lie in the street until you almost run them over. It is up in the mountains a bit from town.
| Dirt streets and many palapas |
| Some very modern houses |
This was part of a colonial style home which wasn't complete
but had lots of potential, including an outdoor room with fireplace. |
| Would make a great party house |
| Everyone seems to have outdoor kitchens. |
| Roofs make great living space for views. |
We met Leslie and Pat at a friend's house on Thanksgiving. We stopped by this weekend to visit their home in the Ranchitos. They have quite a story: been traveling around Mexico, South and Central America since the early 70's with motorcycles and camper vans. They are a couple of real characters-never a boring moment with these two. We spent a few hours, drinking beer and listening to hilarious stories of their adventures. And, they look so normal now!
They own this large lot and have been adding on to it since
they bought it. This is the Mexican equivalent of a 4 car garage. |
A bodega: basically a storage, work area-this one complete
with a urinal! |
This is their front yard, complete with palapa, chiminea and
sitting area. The orange in the background is screening to create shade. |
The eating area, complete with moveable
chiminea to keep diners warm.
There are the orange screens again on the
ceiling. |
| The kitchen-outside of course, with plenty of storage. |
| Their coffee bar and table |
| They even have an outdoor laundry facility! |
On the way home:
| San Francisco Beach |
| Charly's Rock |
| Charly's Rock |
| Caught the last of it at home |
